Earl K. Long Medical Center
Earl K. Long Medical Center is a JCAHO and CMS accredited state-run, acute care medical facility that serves East Baton Rouge Parish and the seven surrounding parishes within its designated coverage area: Ascension, West Baton Rouge, East and West Feliciana, Iberville, Livingston and Pointe Coupee.
The mission of Earl K. Long Medical Center is:
- to provide quality care to residents of the service area, regardless of their ability to pay;
- to serve, through affiliation with the LSU School of Medicine, as a teaching hospital for physician education;
- to support training in nursing and allied health care professions;
- to support the community through health education and preventive services; and as a public hospital,
- to assure the public’s trust through prudent management of financial and human resources.
The medical center has several outpatient services in areas that include women’s health, family practice, internal medicine, surgery, orthopedics, oral surgery, HIV, pediatrics, dermatology, rheumatology, and other subspecialty clinics. Inpatient services are in the areas of emergency, obstetrics, internal medicine and surgery. Services are also provided to incarcerated persons from the area prisons, jails, and correctional facilities. Additional clinic services are provided through LSUHSC-EKLMC outreach clinics, staffed by LSUHSC-EKLMC (to provide primary medical care services), the North Baton Rouge Community Center (NBR clinic), the Leo S. Butler Community Center (SBR clinic), and the LSU-MID-CITY clinic, located on North Foster Drive.
The faculty of Earl K. Long Medical Center teaches medical students and emergency medicine, internal medicine, dermatology, obstetrics/gynecology, oral surgery, orthopedics, ophthalmology, pediatrics and surgery residents. Graduates of LSU training programs are found in all medical subspecialties throughout Louisiana.
