Medical Student Rotations

Medical students are welcomed and encouraged to rotate with our service.  Students will be able to experience both public and private emergency department care settings as well as work closely with residents, emergency physicians, and community physicians.

Medical students must be currently enrolled in an accredited U.S. medical school and are required to obtain the Visiting Studentís Application for an Elective at Louisiana State University School of Medicine by contacting.

Marie Wegeman   (225)358-3940     Mwegem@lsuhsc.edu

Specify Course # MEDC 437I on all communications with this office. This process will ensure that the medical student will have adequate malpractice coverage while rotating on our service.

An Emergency Medicine Faculty or Resident will always supervise the Medical Student.  The degree of responsibility for patient care delegated to a medical student will vary based on a number of factors, including the nature of the patientís illness, nature of the procedure to be done, and the level and abilities of the medical student.

Medical Students will be evaluated using their own medical school criteria and evaluation form or our standard resident evaluation form.

Medical Students are expected to attend all Emergency Medicine Conferences and Lectures during the length of their rotation.

Housing is provided while on the medical student rotation.
