Library Services
Library facilities in the Baton Rouge area provide strong support for the researcher and practitioner. Housed within EKLMC is a medical library staffed by a full-time librarians. The library includes 300 journal titles, 2,200 textbooks and monographs, 5,500 bound journal volumes, 250 audio-visual items, dozens of educational and instructional CD packages, and Internet computer workstations. The EKLMC library also has an excellent interlibrary loan service for obtaining additional texts and journal articles.
The LSU Health Sciences libraries include over 210,000 bound volumes, 2,699 audiovisual titles, and approximately 1,850 current journal subscriptions including more than 400 serials with electronic access. A web-based integrated library system and networked databases system provide access to resources such Ovid, MEDLINE, CINAHL, HealthStar, PsycINFO, MDConsult, Cochrane Library, PubMed, Cancerlit, as well as electronic access to Ovidís 16 core biomedical journals.
Additional library services are available at the Baton Rouge General Medical Center where residents can access information from an on-site library. Services include: 24-hour access to the library, access to all MEDLARS databases and access to MEDLINE 5. Orientation to the CD Plus computer system, photocopy service in compliance with copyright law, and full interlibrary loan services are also available.
The Emergency Medicine Residency Program has a department library with audiovisual and computer-assisted educational programs located in the EMRP education center building. The LSU main campus library collection includes 3,133,626 volumes, 5,279,855 microforms, 23,170 audiovisual materials, and 24,838 current periodical subscriptions. |
